Tom's Palette @ Shaw Tower

toms palette

At. Long. Last. Tom's Palette. I've done a consolidation of visits to this place starting in February when I deliberating pulled all stops just to attempt their festive flavours.

I don't know what took me so long to return to Tom's Palette.
Berate me, please.
I should be officially nicknamed "fickle pickle" and here's why,

emptied cups

On the first visit, we sampled 11 flavours before we finally settled on 6.
On the second...I remember sampling just 5 before deciding on 2.
On the third...it was down to sampling 3 before deciding on 2.

Wasabi Lime - Zesty on the tongue but fiery as it glides down. Interesting but really acquired.
Granny's Favourite - Malt, cookie dough and chocolate makes this irresistible. Honestly, I'd gladly take two scoops of this if not for the chocolate base.
Mango - Fruity one but it didn't tempt.
Black swirl (Black Glutinous Rice in Coconut) - Strong hints of coconut which overshadowed the black glutinous rice.
Peanut Butter - Good not great.
Salty Yuzu - Not a fan somehow.
Lavender - Too floral for me.
Ed's Tea - One mighty teh tarik here...
Pistachio Sorbet - Wish they had it for sale...! Loved how this sorbet did not melt away into nothingness..it actually packed a nutty punch!
Black Sesame - Rich with a burnt aftertaste.
Cherry and Almond - The cherry struck me hard on the palette...not my kinda flavour.

first

Salted Egg - Loved the salted egg bits inside..

Pineapple Tart - Think mashed pineapple filling in the icecream...would have been more awesome if the buttery crusts were crushed in too! Otherwise, this had the same grainy texture as Mung Bean's

2nd cup

Rose and Lychee - This tasted quite like sorbet for its texture. Lychee rules in this love-or-hate dessert.

Pumpkin and Wintermelon - A tad overload in wintermelon cubes while pumpkin was a sidekick. Not too bad.

3rd cup

Mung Bean 豆沙饼 - Topples Pineapple Tart as a favourite. Loved the crushed tau sar piah pastry within which could double up as a mix-in.

Hazelnut - Rich, nutty...yum.

I'm a fan of their milk-based icecreams than sorbets. Adore Tom's for his guts and odd pairings which actually turn out quite spectacularly. Does not hurt that monthly specials keep the fans' interest sustained. I'm keeping vigil for the famous Ed Tea (they use burmese tea for this teh-tarik inspired one!) and limited edition  kuromitsu ice cream!

Boy, this sounds like massive repeated visits ahead.

$2.80 (small)

And true enough within weeks, I paid homage to Tom's yet again. I smell a massive infatuation brewing.

apple pie x mung bean

Mung Bean 豆沙饼 - Still riding on the high of the last visit, I think I like this as much as Ice cream Chef's Kaya Lottee.

Apple Pie - Loved the cinnamon powder and apple pie hints in this...would it not be awesome if they really blended in an entire Mcdonald's Apple Pie? That would be wiiiicked.

choc stout x pineapple tart

Chocolate Stout - Perhaps the tastebuds have been numb by the continous nights of boozing but this was more of a chocolate icecream than stout though the companions thought it was lethal towards the end.

Pineapple Tart - The last of the festive flavours that I tried to stuff myself silly with. Still a favourite!

granny's fave x caramel cheesecake

Granny's Favourite - I actually liked it enough to heck the pimples..resembled a toned down version of Ben and Jerry's cookie dough icecream...the peanut butter balls were simply irresistible.

Salted Caramel Cheesecake - Less outstanding when paired with Granny's favourite.

If you thought the revisit would be limited to just once...how wrong. It was an addiction, a deadly one too. Everytime in the vicinity, the icecream alert would be blinking headlights in my mind..

longan red date x caramel cheesecake

Longan Red Date - Diced red dates made this unique..was good enough to replace my favourite longan red date tea..which I actually love thick!

Salted Caramel Cheesecake - Still riding high on the wave of salted caramel. Realised it's been a consistent order each visit.

I'm officially Tom's fan!
