Senso Ristorante & Bar @ Club Street

I've been to Senso just once for christmas one year and fell in love with the place...the courtyard, bar...and perhaps the whole Club Street stretch. Fastforward a couple of years, I was back for lunch two months back.

interior

The table as centerpiece which I found odd to place wines.
senso bread basket

Breadbasket of crunchy parmesan biscuit sticks, herb loaf and whole grain bread. Balsamic vinegar took three quarts of the basket to disappear before it made its grand arrival. Pity butter was not served with it but otherwise, I had a hearty time polishing off most of the basket.

 fish carpaccio

King Fish Carpaccio with Citrus Fruit dressing and Arugola Salad

Italian Yusheng was amongst the first thoughts when I saw it. Raw fish with orange and grapefruit wedges and topped with arugola leaves. While it was refreshing, the fish lacked a certain sweetness I was expecting.

steak

Grain-fed Beef steak with oven-roasted Ratte Potaoes and Mushroom sauce

With Otto's inked on the back of my mind, I made comparisons...unfortunately.

medium

It was lovely no doubt, grilled to medium doneness...potatoes lightly salted and mushroom sauce was well flavoured but it lacked the beefy taste to it.

Mixed Fruits cocktail with Mango Sorbetto

For once, I thought...the sorbet was close to Weis...with the mild chewy texture though mango was as mild too.

choc mousse

Homemade Chocolate-Kahlua mousse and Savoiardi finger biscuit

Had I known it wasn't milk chocolate but white chocolate...I'd have gone for this instead! The only form of chocolate was in swirls. A lovely white chocolate mousse concocted. Reminded me of a white chocolate version of tiramisu somehow.

tea

Service was warm amidst the fuss and activity the restaurant was buzzing with. Good not great...Senso is.
