When Icing Room was launched, I credited BreadTalk for yet another ingenious business line. Patite Patissier soon followed suit with instant birthday cakes that one could dress up with off the shelf sprinkles and biscuits.
Everytime I walk pass Icing Room, it is crowded with kids, teens, young adults and occasionally families decorating their cakes in full concentration.
Until a friend's birthday, I honestly have not tried Icing Room's cakes.
Shocking, could be an understatement. Design aside, which according to the group of decorators was tough as nut business. The icing bags had nibs so fine, drawing or writing anything legible would give you parkinsons - hence the handwriting that reflected so! They ended up dusting the cake with whatever they had out of frustration.
Now for the moment of truth..the cake was frozen sponge with frozen fruits. Best of all, the layer of cream was not the least bit palatable either. So stiff, we probably need a kitchen knife to even cause a dent in it.
I say, stick to the neighbourhood bakery cream cakes, those at least score in the taste department.
