Back to Regent for some festive a-loving!

CNY mood..totally.

After such a glorious first visit, I was nothing but all praise for it and recommending it to the skies even to the pals for CNY. Hence, we all trooped down to celebrate everybody's birthday. Summer Palace was fully booked, or so we were told when we tried to change tables.

Note: Summer Palace only offers CNY menus and a limited range throughout the period so their regular signatures are not available much to my chagrin. I was looking forward to the yam pudding, roast pork and fried rice!

Adored candied kiwi best.

Salmon Yusheng ($58)
Choose from Jellyfish, salmon and abalone yusheng...extra toppings are charged separately. Definitely most plain looking from the numerous yushengs I have tossed. By the time you reach the sixth, it does get a bit too much. I could do with a bit more luck though!
I finally get why longer an thicker chopsticks are used for large yushengs. It makes helluva difference when tossing! Either the yusheng was too heavy or our fingers were weak but tossing this was an arduous task..

A tad sweet with the plum sauce though still delicious. This was mostly shredded vegetables which made me realise fried yam sticks does make a whole lot of difference to the crunch of it.

Deep Fried Wasabi Prawns ($38)
Eight morsels per portion. Credit will be given when due. I adore Summer Palace's rendition. The wasabi sauce actually caused a nose-freeze. Looooved it! Unlike the rest of the wasabi prawns attempted which tends to be creamy and looked wasabi from the green colouring, this was mighty good. Do practise caution in taking more than one like greedy me did and ended up too full for comfort.

Suckling Meat Platter ($60)
We had all three; suckling pig, roast pork and roast duck. The stomach sunk in disappointment when I spied the platter. The roast pork was nowhere near the last. The whole platter looked forlorn judging from the meats given...as if they were from the ends and corners of the whole ducks and pigs that they sold for the festive season.
Suckling pig and its crunchy skin, roast pork was sliced so thin and a tad soggy and roast duck was pretty regular. Unspectacular...unfortunately.

Seafood Beancurd Pot ($38)
Nothing too extraordinary..lacked a certain wok hei about this...would have been great with a bowl of rice.

Beef Tenderloin with Pepper ($30)
Tender cubes stir fried with peppers. It was in between over tenderized and tough. Possibly the best dish of the night.

Glutinous Rice in Lotus Leaf ($30)
The pals wanted something festive though the heart would have gone for foie gras eefu noodles. The blandest glutinous rice...ever. Was it the trainee chef?

Nian Gao ($10, 5 pcs)
I've learnt not to bother with nian gao at restaurants. The ratio of glutinous rice and flour is obviously lopsided given its kueh texture. Simply fried without egg even. Charged by per piece..this was a complete rip-off.

Lemongrass Jelly with Lime ($8)
This, was soooooo much better!
Disappointing display by Summer Palace..I hope it can be attributed to the festive season for such a lacklustre performance. No appetizer, no petit fours...none of the frills that they normally serve up despite paying a premium for festive dishes..inconsistency I say. Service was expectedly attentive.
