Brasserie Wolf @ Robertson Quay

brasserie wolf

Promoted as an authentic Parisian restaurant under Esmirada Group, Brasserie Wolf is helmed by Chef Philippe Nouzilla. Recently renovated, it spots both cosy and outdoor dining areas for diners. To celebrate International Friendship Day cum Valentine's Day, both the dateless pal and I decided to head to Brasserie Wolf and envy all the loved up couples out there. (A rather silly thing to do...especially for sucha expensive occasion!)

"Do you have seats?"

"Yes we have just one table left but you must order the set menu." Was the quick and prompt response. Laziness got the better of us to bother sussing out other places, it was Brasserie Wolf then.

inside

Barely filled, it was a trap to begin with. Like a venus fly trap, we got sucked into the blackhole. Oh well, that's what Valentine's is all about anyway...over commercialisation and getting pampered.

Glasses of champagne were served at $18++ per glass..though most headed for their more than comprehensive wine and spirits list.

Breadbasket took eternity to arrive.

bread basket

Onion loaf was way too dry while the mini baguette was way too hard. Loved the salted butter though.

foie gras mousse

Homemade foie-gras terrine with kumquat marmalade toasted champagne bread

Toasted champagne bread? Barely a trace of the alcohol, just toasted bread. Foie gras terrine and kumquat marmalade was surprisingly complementary in all its velvety goodness.

caviar salmon

Artichoke heart, smoked salmon mousse poached egg and caviar vinaigrette

salmon poached egg sliced

Artichoke heart tasted really like preserved vegetable while the savoury salmon mousse failed to bring on a nice contrast to the bland poached egg. Not a fan of the caviar vinaigrette either.

scallops

Pan seared scallops, mushroom fricassee Topinambur volute

These scallops mighty shrivelled from all the overcooking though the fragrance and flavours were strong. A tad over bouncy I found. Yet, liked the mushrooms used.

mushroom risotto

Mushroom Risotto, Parmesan Shavings

Personally not a fan of risotto but this was pretty decent in all the creaminess, milkiness and cheesiness about it. Strong one, yet not jelard.

beef with foie gras

Tornedos Rossini, Mashed Potato Cake, Truffle Sauce

I was not aware this was a steak dish until I was asked my preferred doneness. More specifically, steak with foie gras and truffle. Cooked medium, I adored the pink very much.

steak

Tender meltingly so...I loved the juices all the more so. Paired with a generous portion of foie gras...I was over indulged.

fish

Pan seared halibut, red wine sauce confit leeks

Red wine sauce completely threw this dish out of the window..the tangy teriyaki-tasting sauce that was too strong for the otherwise bland halibut.

mille feuille

Classic strawberry mille feuille, Chantilly cream, warm chocolate sauce

Pretty to look at and that was pretty much it. The pastry was crispy yet overly sweet.

macarons

Petit Fours

3 macarons and 3 chocolates..simply out of the world bad. So sweet and crunchy, these were like meringue cookies. Chocolate had orange liquer which was overempowering. For once, I did not bare to empty out the petit fours.

The chef made his friendly rounds though limited to "How's the food" and nodding in approval. Service is moderate with misses here and there; crew forgetting which table ordered what dish...wine that never got served and best part of all, the restaurant was barely filled.

If it is any comfort, all ladies were issued with a single stalk of rose. The food was moderate at best.

  1. I have eaten at this place on valentines day it was packed, and I must say that this was the best meal I have ever had at this restaurant. I live right above brasserie wolf and have eaten there twice a week for the past 3 years and I have never eaten that good at this restaurant. Chef claudio ( he has taken over the restaurant from chef Phillip at the beginning of february ) has done a fantastic job that night and made sure we had a memorable "date".
