I am still on an unofficial quest to hunt down Singapore's answer to Belgium's waffle. Bakeries were naturally on the list. Sun Moulin's version looks the part and was a fraction of the portions in Belgium.
A cross between cake and bread, this lacked the oomph and doughyness the authentic has. I suppose this is good enough to qualify as a Singaporean waffle next to the freshly made ones at select bakeries. Up against the big brother, this falls hugely short.

sun moulin's liege waffles are much fluffier when fresh out of the oven (look for it on the cooling rack). they become denser and more cake-like after they cool.
ReplyDeleteif you manage to try their waffles when they are freshly baked, can you keep me informed about how they live up to the authentic version? thanks (:
Heh, sure i will...! Actually the singapore ones tend to be more cake-like, just my thoughts after trying out a few. Nonetheless, I'm still hunting THE waffle down. Golden Mile sounds promising though..
ReplyDeleteAh.. golden mile's one has already changed hand after the initial medai hype. Not sure how it tastes now. Let us know! =)
ReplyDeletei once tried Sweet Stone Parad'Ice's liege waffles at a booth at a shopping mall and wasn't impressed cos it wasn't crunchy on the outside. then again, it wasn't served piping hot off the stove and had been sitting in a warmer. hope the freshly made ones fare better!
ReplyDeletebtw, the ones at four leaves lack a crunchy sugar coating so don't bother trying them.
@ daniel: thanks for the tip!
ReplyDelete@ stargirl: ;) wish me luck hunting the closest waffle we have here!
Acually Four Leaves have a few varieties, choc-coated, strawberry glazed etc. Haven't tried those but maybe you could try since you're on hunt.
ReplyDeleteactually saw those but somehow didnt look good enough..oh well maybe it tastes better than it looks!
