We were match made last year and this year, made it to the honorary list of repeat! The unforgettable luxe finish...
Here's what I had to say about it last year:
The white lotus paste was amazing when I first tried it last year...this year, it wowed again. The beauty lies in the creamy finish when it glides down the throat. The white lotus paste is not too sweet and the pastry is not too oily nor dry. No regrets jumping onto the Hyatt bandwagon!
And this year's verdict:
Hyatt took the risk and outdid itself in terms of packaging, a huge cry from last year's simple metal box. When I was given the paper bag, it was a jaw dropping moment both in terms of size and futuristic design. Shaped like a disc and coloured silver, resembled one humongous silver coin. The velvety red interior was luxury at its finest. Perfect for gifting, especially...arguably the best of this year's in terms of presentation. Think it stole the thunder from Fairmont's bright orange donut packaging even. While it stole the thunder from the rest, I felt was designed too big for comfort and had problems transporting it home. Methinks half the price of the mooncake went to the box design.
A delicious shade of brown.
Taste now...Still as creamy and rich though not as gratifying as before. White lotus paste was on the sweet side. When eaten chilled, it was barely creamy. However when eaten thawed, the lovely familiar milky taste was evident.
Next year? And why not?
Hyatt

Quite surprised Hyatt has good baked mooncakes, considering it is halal certified (if I am not mistaken)...
ReplyDeletePretty but yet bulky boxes are always a dilemma to keep and often the sleekest ones will remain in my house while the rest are given away or thrashed... Pretty environment unfriendly...
Talking about packaging, I do like Ritz Carlton, Meritus Mandarin, Peninsula (HK) & Fullerton... =)
Wow sounds like a must-try! next year... mooncake surfeit this year already.
ReplyDelete@ Fen: Yep! I find it odd that their baked mooncakes are THAT good. Definitely, I've since hidden the box away in some corner hoping to recycle it someday..sigh, the perils of packaging and "face" when it comes to gifting.
ReplyDeleteHeh, I like meritus mandarin too! Ritz wins hands down for such a neat compact design~!
@ Ice: do try! i realise the outstanding ones don't bother placing themselves everywhere. *oops
