Classic Cakes @ Sunset Way

All I needed was some prodding from the cake fanatic for me to resume trying out Life's Top 50 cakes from yesteryears. Mille Crepes ranked #1 on the list and it was the odd one out on those ranked mainly because it is not entirely cake. Layers of crepes painstakingly put together and caramelised.

Apart from mille crepes, Classic Cakes also specialises in Blackforest and Cheesecakes which on impulse, I decided to try all the flavours of their crepes available that visit.

Original

Made to resemble creme brulee with the torched top layer, the layers did not gel as cohesively as desired resulting in too defined crepe layers. Verdict: Acquired dessert it is. Despite being splashed with kirsch liqueur, it was barely discernible.

Apple

Creamed with custard and apple slices, this was a soggy version of a strudel though better than the original.

Chocolate Chip

Of the three, this was the best. Somehow or another chocolate and crepes go very well together, at least it could pass off as a pleasant one!

Not too huge a fan of crepes to begin with, the cake version needs quite a bit of getting used to. Cheesecakes and blackforest perhaps?

Crepes are priced from $6.60/slice.

  1. Neither am I, moreover, crepe cakes aren't cheap.

Presume the bulk of the cost goes to making the cake. Prefer Kueh Lapis if you considered that as a variant from a different origin.

My vague impression tells me that the crepe cake from Classic Cakes is better than the one served at Everything with Fries. The latter is quite dry and the crepes are not held proper the moment the fork pierced through...

  2. I was really tempted by the JB crepe cake highly recommended by Zoe Tay and the celebs but after trying this, I srsly have second thoughts. Oh-dear, thank goodness I didn't try the one at EWF.. that wldve been disastrous. Still a diehard kueh lapis fan.
