District 10 Bistro @ Windstedt Road

District 10 Bistro was the lunch location for the course I was attending, secretly I was delighted. There was quite a commotion over their food and service when they first opened doors last year and I hoped they've ironed all of that out by now.

Location wise, finding it was quite a needle in a haystack if you walked from Newton MRT. Just next to ACS Junior, I suppose it is a good place for teachers to pop next door to unwind (if time ever permitted) or parents to laze the afternoon away whilst waiting for their precious ones.

Greens and wood dominate the design of the place, a cozy hideout...perfect from hiding away from the hustle and bustle.

Caesar Salad
Crispy romaine lettuce with roasted bacon, garlic crouton, 24 months old Parmesan Cheese in special dressing

Salads from set meals hardly impress as they are usually tossed together for convenience sake. This is one of the few salads that got me floored. Refreshing romaine lettuce leaves, super delish roasted bacon (these were roasted to a crisp, a healthier version of Bak Kwa) and the awesome aged parmesan cheese! To drool, is an understatement. Grapes were thoughtfully used for the lovely sweet finish.

I'll remember this salad for a long time.

Cordon Bleu Chicken
Breaded chicken cutlet, cheese, ham, creamed mashed potatoes, asparagus

With expectations set so high for the appetizer, I thought I was in for a gastronomical ride. The heart and stomach plummeted, almost simultaneously after the first bite.

Creamed mashed potatoes were decadently delish. Moving onto the chicken was horrific; sour. A strange combination infact. Dipped into chilli sauce, the sourness is masked but it baffled me beyond...why the sourness? Was it vinigarette? The kind of acute sour that certain hollandaise sauces had.

Carrot Cake

Dry with cinnamon hints. I loved the walnut cream cheese frosting best.

Tiramisu

A strong dosage of nespresso made this an evil dessert. Potent stuff!

I would return just for the ambiance..figure it'll be lovely at night with such a concept close to Villa Bali's...away from the city..food, not being the priority.

  1. DIstrict 10 service recently has been slow and lacking in much enthusiasm. Tonight it was horrid and after 15 minutes of no attention we left. The excuse was clean up after a party yet they had staff standing around.

The food is generally good quality though the service issues may be a deal killer in the future.

The restaurant manager seems to be very unconcerned about whether their guests will return or not.

This seems very odd but maybe a part of their "allure".
