Watami @ Central Mall

Watami was one of those places I was dying to go in Hongkong but did not.
In the same fashion, I was still dying to go when it opened its doors at Ion.

Out of randomness, I finally paid homage to its outlet at Central.
20 minutes wait.

Mentai Tamago ($5.80)

This arrived well-greased, both the omelette and wooden serving dish. The ground radish did little to to dilute the grease. The omelette was bland, roe was insignificant.

Irodori Sushi Grandeur ($10.80)
Scallop, eel and seafood salmon

I dig sushi served in platters/long plates...the whole idea of depth and well, hopefully quantity. Watami disappointed hugely. The ingredients piled on top cucumber rice rolls was what the whole grandeur was about. After eating this, I treasured the previous visit to Standing Sushi Bar even more. The disparity of quality ingredients used.

Chicken Katsu Toji ($7.80)
Rice ($1.80)

Watami does not do sets like Waraku, so you end up paying ala carte prices for what would have been a more economical option had it been a set. $1.80 for a bowl of non descript rice? The breaded chicken ended up soggy and laden with fats.

Affordable fare at Watami? I beg to differ. I can find better options anyday.

  1. True, it's not as value-for-money as others would like to make it out to be. I do like the Chicken Katsu Toji, mine was fine the last time I ate it. Still prefer the one from Ichiban Boshi!
