Mad For Garlic @ Suntec

Mad for Garlic replaces Oosters at Suntec, another demise from the Belgium cuisine scene, which I once secretly wanted to visit when the mussel cravings were raging. Years back, there was another eatery at Colours by the Bay with a similar concept..garlic. Till this visit, I had no inkling it hailed from South Korea.

Enough garlic to drive you nuts.

Ready to challenge the garlic limit.

Garlic Fondue ($9.90)
Oven Baked Garlic Cloves served with Traditional Fondue Cheese

The server animatedly de-cloved the garlic for us. The small portion of cheese was just enough though I wish they were more generous with it.

Loved the idea that the cheese was rich and well melted. Garlic and cheese tastes pretty good together. Pity the cheese cooled and coagulated way too fast.

Dracula Killer ($9.90)
Soft Bread served with Garlic cooked in Olive Oil and Anchovies

It took awhile for me to get the name. Garlics are the nemesis of draculas. Bearing a slight resemblance to escargots, the garlic bulbs were soaking in olive oil.

We were taught to eat this by sandwiching the garlic bulbs in the french loaf and dip the olive oil to taste. I found this nice.

Caesar Salad ($9.90)
Traditional Caesar Salad with Romaine Lettuce and Fresh Parmesan Cheese

I heaved a sigh of relief, alas a dish without garlic! One of the more memorable caesar salads around which would have been better with chicken slices.

Mixed Cheese Pizza ($15.90)
Pizza topped with Four Different Kinds of Cheese

Surprisingly, there was no cheese overload..despite 4 different types of cheese being used. The cheese obsession was not satiated though I liked the chewy dough base which did not turn soggy!

Suicide Rice ($14.50)
Fried Rice with Diced Octopus and Squid

One fiery fried rice topped with enough garlic to chase the blues away. Garlic flakes, garlic cloves...

Arrabbiata ($12.90)
Spicy Chili Pasta with Bacon Slices in Tomato Sauce

Rivalled the fried rice in terms of spice to the extent it turned unpleasant. The pasta was obviously undercooked but the manager insisted otherwise.

Chicken and Pasta Combo ($16.80)
A combination of Grilled Chicken in Basil Teriyaki sauce, Pasta and Salad

The pasta was way better here! Salad was way too sweet, they used black sweet sauce instead of balsamic vinegar. Well charred chicken.

A half baked attempt at making Halloween a permanent fixture though I must admit the garlic overload may put off customers. The use of garlic and cheese is equally ubiquitous throughout most of the dishes, how about mad for garlic and cheese?

Good effort on the part of the kitchen in masking the musty taste and smell of garlic, in fact it tasted in between potato and chestnut. Still does not hide the initial distaste and apprehension when tasting it, a mental barrier perhaps.

My interaction with garlic has always been limited to garnishing on stir fried vegetable dishes and at best, garlic bread. Under normal circumstances, I would not even pop the garlic clove into the mouth to eat. This visit earned me a Bravo attempt judging from the amount of garlic consumed.
