Durian Logcake @ Goodwood Park Deli

Icing chestnuts, mistletoes..and well there's the hooha about the rudy nosed old man called Santa and locally, logcakes are creating waves year in year out with hotels trying to outdo (and outsell of course!) with creative logcake flavours. I always lament how consumers are being put on the chopping board and allow commercialism take its tow on our wallets but it's precisely commercialism that is a catalyst for all the interesting creative items that takes our breath away each festive season.

This year, the family took it back to basics with the traditionals. No more "interesting" flavours, no matter how droolicious they sound nor tempting they look. We've weathered enough wrong festive food choices.

Durian Logcake, 1kg, $55

In full glory, looks like last year's with additions of silver dusted chocolate..

Pricing-wise, the same as last year's. Second year running for the durian log and once again I was charmed. A much better rendition as compared to the disastrous "legendary" mooncakes earlier on, in all honesty, the logcake is their durian mousse cake in a log form. The pairing of preserved fruit like figs, sliced pears, orange peel and even cherries did not mar the taste nor overshadow it, in fact came across as pleasingly complementary. As raved before, the durian used is less pungent (not entirely pulp), definitely for the non-lovers (like me!), not entirely a crowd pleaser as the parents preferred it with a stronger punch.

One down, another to go...make a guess what's the other we chose this year? ;)
