Paulaner's 10th Birthday celebration, $10 beers and mains up for grabs and live performances too! Apart from Brozeit and Werner's, Paulaner's another of the more popular German restaurants around. I was highly anticipating Paulaner as at least 3 people told me it's better than Brozeit.
A snap of the bar...
Setting for the ravenous.
First up the juggler!
Who then transformed into a court jester...looked freakishly like Heath Ledger in the Dark Knight? Only less deformed. Did not catch sight of the folks on stilts..
The rest of the restaurant on the second floor.
A bunch of garden flowers..
4 Spicy Kolbaz Grilled Sausages with Potato Salad
Sausages that pack a punch with the spice level and taste, I found them incredibly tasty, the side of potato salad was equally refreshing.
I like how german salads are sour, that creates a break away from the usual salty-spicy tastes that the mains have and helps reduce the impact of the heavy meal.
Crispy Pork Knuckle with Sauekraut and Bread Dumpling
I'm sure Paulaner reduced the portions by at least half for this but it was more than enough for two of us. The nicely fried browned skin was crunchy but could have been fried awhile longer for a crispier finish. The cackling tasted slightly sticky. In true carnivore style, I tore off the pork in chunks. The pork is heavily marinated (a tad too salty!) but otherwise maintained the tenderness. The sour cabbage that came with it whetted the appetite greatly, pity the portion was small. It was also served with a fried slice that resembled yam but tasted like starch.
Dark lager bier, foamy and light. I adore how German beers are easy on the throat, and I down them more delightfully than softdrinks. Surprisingly the dark lager tastes much better than the light, I am sold on beers now. I used to think beers and cocktails are extremes and I could never like beer. As compared to off the shelf brands like Heinekken and even Hoegarden or even brewed beers from Pump Room or Brewerkz, German brewed beers are godsent.
I was given a table in the restaurant proper instead of the bar where all the activity was buzzing. It's a trade off between privacy and all the hustle and noise (you can barely hear yourself!). Service was moderate, trying to get the attention of a waiter is as good as self service.
Lovely experience with pocket friendly prices too...what's there not to love seriously? A couple more days left to their 10 day birthday celebration...hurry!
