2am dessert bar was suggested for the "experience" over ice-cream at Daily Scoop. My impression of the place is...Godiva of Dessert land, for all the advertorials on this place. In fact it's one of those few places that concentrate on desserts and presentation.

Complimentary iced water.

D.S.S. (Deconstructed Strawberry Shortcake) ($14)
Smoked white chocolate, wild strawberry panna cotta, pate de fruit, white chocolate rice krispies, rose petal sorbet
My first deconstructed dessert...the pals warned me about the size of the portion but that wasn't the concern.
It arrived in a big white plate, pretty much scattered all over..an illusion of space perhaps. Strips of white chocolate, panna cotta, strawberries, cubes pastilles and the rice krispies. The rose petal sorbet was heavily infused with rose petal essence, very flowery and fragrant...the disappointment kicked in when it was quite tasteless at the end. Overall I ate quite abit of strawberries and chocolate in various forms. Wasn't overly impressed though.
If I could do an analogy, 2am's for the arty farty..like what French food is. Think strips of sweets, piped cream, wild flavours..gorgeous naming conventions..well, the chef was trained in Cordon Bleu in Paris.
It's worth a try just for the experience but if you're looking for a dessert that fills you up considerably, give it a miss. Their desserts aim to please aesthetically more so than satisfy the after meal sweet craving. In fact, I was more in awe of the presentation and ambience than the taste. Cushions are availble to lounge around quite a bite, wines are up for pairing with dessert...and service impeccable. Your glass is refilled tons of times and very promptly.
All in...
Godiva for price, surely. Like Canele, it's priced about the same for the dessert display.
Godiva for taste..depends on what you pick. The pals' chocolate tart was quoted "incredible".
Godiva for presentation, nobody can fault a dessert artwork as long as it ain't scattered messily..or chocolate sauce not dripped in perfect circles.
Godiva for quality..they prepare your dessert upon order, the blender was always churning and whirling away. Watching the chef spoon sorbets was a spectacle, they don't get them out of pre-prepared boxes but did them on the spot..
Unlike Godiva, I'll probably not return.
