Durian Fiesta 2009 @ Goodwood Park

Goodwood's Durian Fiesta is on once again, starting 1 March to 10 August. Fairy Godfather R decided to be sweet and all things nice once again, picking up the durian combo 5 to make me and the family uber happy and full! :)

Durian Combo 5 ($22, early bird promo price) consists of

Durian Strudel

A new creation this year, Durian Strudel is a pastry baked to a tempting hue of honey brown with sponge cake and filled with creamy durian pulp. I liked the flaky pastry, the spongecake was somewhat unnecessary in a strudel though.

Durian Oreo Cake

My favourite of the lot! The pulp and cake base with oreo bits on top went well, I like how the oreo is not too heavy, the magic that the durian and cake created, one of the best of the 5.

Durian, Pandan Coconut Cake

Another favourite, the layers of pandan cake and durian cream are a perfect match. Not cloying sweet, just good enough. I like how the coconut shavings go so well with the durian and pandan. Quite light on the palette as well!

Durian Puff

Consistently good.

Durian & Crunchy Hazelnut Tartlet

This has a huge dollop of pulp and cream on top of a mini tartlet with hazelnut mousse beneath. The tartlet's got quite alot to achieve with all the heavyweights balancing on top. Pricey given it's size.

At the promotional price of $22, it's a very good deal if you ask me. Now the combo is priced at $30, subject to GST.

The rest of the durian delights on sale and I've tried at some point:

Durian Pudding

I first tried it at the Dimsum buffet at MinJiang. I love how the pudding's smooth and light, definitely a must try!

Durian Mousse Cake

If this is the same as the logcake, another delight! The sponge and durian go awesomely well, the only dessert that isn't overladen with durian pulp.

Durian Roll & Durian Crepe

The next two on the list of to try to complete this durian fiesta.

The thing about goodwood's durian delights is, the durian pulp mostly outweighs and outshines the pastry/cake that comes with it. Slightly disproportionate if you ask any dessert chef. You might as well just eat a good durian, for the hard core durian fans. Despite that, I'm one happy customer.

  1. Haha, looks like you are also one durian lover... The durian goodies from Goodwood Park are potent stuff... overloaded with durian pulp and is a potential sore throat causer... Make sure you drink lots of water...

I am holding back my temptation for their durian buffet which will only available 1 June to 10 August 2009 at $19.80++ per person.

Didn't try the durian oreo cake and durian, pandan coconut cake, thought the accompanying flavours will overshadow the durian... Your reviews are making me curious though...

  2. hehe, on the contrary, I'm no a durian fan but a fan of goodwood park's durian desserts ;P

Yup! Very potent...I always drink my water like a buffalo thereafter.

OMG! You're serious?? Should've waited for the durian buffet then! You're making me excited now. :P On a separate note, Hilton has a cheesecake buffet at $25.80++. *tempting*

That's what I thought too! But so far, the flavours experimented and balance of durian have gone down quite well for me and the hard core durian lovers at home.

  3. Same here, as time goes, I don't really fancy the real fruit but prefer durian dessert. Of course, the artificial flavouring ones can be a put off so not many appeal...

Goodwood Park's durian buffet is something like this..
    Durian Puff
    Durian Pandan & Coconut Cake
    Durian Crunchy Hazelnut Tartlet
    Durian Pudding
    Durian Pancake (Live Station)
Ice Cream – 2 selections with condiments
    Fruit Platter – 5 selections
    Hot/Chilled Dessert – 4 selections
    Cake – 6 selections

Sounds tempting right? So, I was thinking of dropping by the buffet and then takeaway at the Deli for the missing items...

Hmm... Hilton, I presume you are refering to the cheesecake and chocolate feast, I been there last year and their cheesecakes are so good... The only thing is that it is alittle awkward as not everybody at the lounge is having the buffet so I do look like a glutton coming back for more... Also, because the demand is low, they don't replenish very frequently...

  4. wow...you're well versed with the goodwood park buffet! Yessss, very very tempting! I can thirds and fourths of the durian pudding itself. You should have a dessert outing, I'll join for sure!

Oh, i must've missed that post! Looks very good too. I guess cheesecake is more jelard? as compared to the durian buffet? Heh, the trick about buffets is to walk in with ultra thick skin. :P
