Old Hong Kong Tea House @ Katong

The initial dinner plan was at Waraku on a Friday night but since no reservations were made, that meant waiting for an eternity. R and I hopped over to Old Hongkong Tea House instead..the queues were simply driving us nuts.

First up, we get shown to our seats and then, we get a really enthusiastic waitress who can't help rattling off a list of "new" items from a rolled out piece of paper and insisting they taste awesome. Of which I brushed her off. Then, our drinks take forever to come.

Steamed Siew Mai ($3.80), this was a late add on order because I wanted something to warm the stomach. You can't quite see the redness of the meat in the siew mai (yes, lousy camera quality!), the siew mai just looks funny with red meat and it's not minced, more of a combination of minced and pork cubes. Did not like this one bit.

Chicken Cutlet..heavily deep fried and too oily. The cutlet did not have much of a taste, too much skin, too little meat. The vegetables are pathetic in portions and over boiled. Even the potato salad was tragic, too dry.

Coconut sheets with mango and pomelo ($4.80), measly portion, but I'm not complaining because it's not close to average. Sour mango cream with pomelo bits and yes, that round white thing is the coconut flesh, a heavily processed one too.

Did not enjoy this place at all, maybe I didn't try the right dishes but for that experience, it's one of the worst hongkong style cafes around.
